Something to look forward to and for those who are into trail running, do prepare for the The North Face’s TNF 100 in CamSur. Rumors have it that it might be at Mt. Isarog, that looming dormant volcano near Naga City. I might have the opportunity to shoot this one.

Check TNF website for more details.

Thrill of the Trail - Bohol

Check out the GALLERY

It’s finally up! 356 images taken at the Thrill of the Trail, Bohol leg, yesterday at the municipality of Danao. It was a good race that, as a photographer covering it, I was wishing that I have joined instead. However, I was able to follow the runners in the first few kilometers and was introduced, briefly, to trail running.

Note that these are direct RAW converts.

Pre trip briefing for the Thrill of the Trail Bohol leg

Arriving in Cebu from Cagayan de Oro, I immediately proceeded from the airport to the Ayala Center Activity Center to attended the racer’s pre trip briefing by ROX for the TNF Thrill of the Trail race in Bohol. I was invited by Primer, the group handling the race and the mother company of the various outdoor/adventure brands like TNF, Columbia, ROX, etc. to cover the race as a blogger, part of media.

From the visuals presented, the race seems to be interesting with the main drawer, trail running around the famous Chocolate Hills of Bohol, in the vicinity of Danao municipality.

Now, I’m in Tagbilaran City with the organizer and other groups who will cover the race and come 0300H tomorrow, we will be proceeding to the venue with the gunstart at 0600H.

At the briefing in Tagbilaran City at 4PM, Saturday

Being one of the photographers, I’m really looking forward to this race. I’m hoping that it wouldn’t rain, that the views and sceneries will be perfect and that I will also have a great time shooting.

TNF’s Thrill of the Trail – Bohol: should I run or shoot?

TNF's Bohol trail run race

TO SHOOT or TO RUN?

This basically is plaguing me now for The North Face’s Thrill of the Trail – Bohol trail running race. So trivial, you might say, and two friends already asked me to join as they will also be registering. Many ungo runners from Cebu will also troop to this neighboring island. Also, there is only a limited number of participants so as not to have a big impact on the trail path.

A part of me wants to experience trail running. I used to climb mountains in college and during my stint in Smart and getting acquainted with the hills again would be most welcome. Doing the trails is also a change to my usual road runs and races. Then I have to buy new trail running shoes and perhaps some accessories which might set me back a couple of thousands of pesos, even with TNF’s 20% discount coupon with price points starting at 6,000 pesos.

A part of me also wants to shoot. Just imagine the rugged terrain of Danao, the expression of the runners and the exhaustion that I’m sure they will be experiencing. All these are ingredients to a good sports photo shoot.

If given the choice, I would prefer the latter. I want to build my portfolio and the TNF Bohol trail run will be most welcome. Come Monday or Tuesday, I will know if I will either run or shoot.

Note: I’m not sure why but for Metro Manila registrants, they’re charging P500 while provincial ones just P350. Check their website.
