Women, stand up and be counted, the Pinay In Action Run in Cebu

It’s high time that women take centerstage in a male dominated sport such as running. Sen. Pia Cayetano will have her fourth (yep, lest you think that this is just for the elections) Pinay In Action Run. This time, it has gone nationwide with the Mindanao leg (Davao last March) and the Visayas leg here in Cebu this coming 11 April, 6 AM at the Asiatown IT Park as part of her advocacy of the active lifestyle and, especially, of engendering discussions and focus on women’s issues to the forefront.
What makes this race unique is that it is primarily an advocacy run dedicated for women runners with the ICanServe, a breast cancer advocacy group, it’s main recipient. It wants also to highlight cervical cancer and voilence against women as raging issues today. While the men are also allowed to run, with prizes and medals too, they are enjoined to bring their spouses or loved ones and support them in the run:
Men are welcome but must register with a female participant.
The race has 3K, 5K and 10K distances with prizes to the top female, and male finishers. Registration is only P250 and is only up to 9 April. Check Pinay In Action for additional important information and updates.
I'm Estan Cabigas, a freelance photographer blogger and traveler. I just started to seriously run last 2 March 2010 and for the past few months, I've improved greatly in my running as well as lost pounds in the process. I'm gunning for a full marathon by 2011.
