My first wet night run with the Ungo runners

Runners of the night!

CebuRunning.com's Friday night run took us from the Sunstar office in P. del Rosario St. all the way to IT Park.
Ungo are night monsters in Philippine folklore that devours people in their sleep or ambushes them in some dark corner to have them as a meal. Every Friday night at 2200H, a different kind of night denizens prowl the streets of Cebu not for human flesh, but to have a fit and fun run with local runners.
Max Limpag and his wife, both of CebuRunning.com, have been organizing these Friday runs, now on its fifth week. What started out as a couple running has, as of last night, attracted around 22 Cebuanos including me. My intent was to document this for a future post and possibly a future work on running in the country and then run while at it. Bad advice (read this complementary post at my photo portfolio blog)!
Starting at the Sun Star office, where Max works, the route took us to Osmeña Boulevard, to Escario St. then a right detour at Gorordo Ave., turned left at JY Square then Salinas Drive and ended at Ayala IT Park (click on the route map above).
What made this memorable for my first night run was that it rained! Despite the el niño weather phenomenon, it was a wet and cool evening which was welcome considering that it was a bit tiring for one who just started.
Though short, around 6KM, it was good meeting new like minded people who run for fitness and camaraderie. I will definitely be there next Friday.

I'm Estan Cabigas, a freelance photographer blogger and traveler. I just started to seriously run last 2 March 2010 and for the past few months, I've improved greatly in my running as well as lost pounds in the process. I'm gunning for a full marathon by 2011. I shoot races as well.

My flagellant image is Editor's Choice in the National Geographic Magazine May 2010 issue.
